About Me

My name is Dave Langston - I live in the UK - Past locations include - Birmingham, Cannock Chase, Ringwood. Current Address - Wylye near Salsbury, Wiltshire.

Not that it really matters but I started work as a young lad renovating Snooker Tables. I suspect this educated me in many things but in my soul, it gave me an appreciation of fine detail, the skill to produce that detail, and the history of events that brought that to my eyes. From there I started my own business, still in the snooker trade but also with a sideline of French Polishing. This only reinforced my love of the past. Once with a settled family, like so many people, my thoughts turned to things I couldn't afford when younger but could afford now. One of those things was football - going to the game, buying football programmes, and on to reading football magazines which brought me back to my love of history and the events of the past. Slowly building up my collection.

I moved away from working with my hands to working with my brain as a mature student in IT I once again became an employee. This time working for a water company. I've missed the boring rocky parts as no one is interested in misery but pretty soon I was flying in this job and moving quickly up the ladder. Season tickets for games were now an acceptable option as were holidays abroad so naturally football memorabilia started to grow both in size and quality. Until, in fact, one day I thought "I could do this for a living" and so I did.

Some of you might recall a website called football4sale, that was me and at its height, I was selling 50,000 items a year around the world. With regular collectors coming back month after month I was traveling wide and far to buy collections in order to add to my site and sell on. I brought to that business my sense of quality and detail with a fair price thrown in. Although not making a fortune I was doing something I loved and while selling I was also reading and reading all these football magazines and loving it.

Everything comes to an end, I was diagnosed with cancer and went through 5 years of treatment. While I was able to continue everything as normal, something changed, well a lot changed but more important to this is I changed. I now had stockpiles of programmes, magazines, etc and to be honest it was getting difficult to find the energy to move it around and the enthusiasm to maintain the products on the website. I needed a change.

And so we packed everything up in storage and went house hunting. This process was meant to be six months but in the end took 2 years. A little thing called cancer popped up and had to be dealt with. Another 3 years were spent renovating the property we bought while dealing with the problem of the pandemic and all this time my leftover collection was sitting waiting.

So here we are today, my final push, where I'll be selling items for what I think is a good price. Encouraging more people to find football history interesting and collecting some much-needed cash to continue the renovation of the house.
